In my preferred shade ranges, I would say I am pretty well covered. I mean, lets face it, there are only so many base shades and since I tend to stay in my comfort zone, I have a ton of pink/berry/red leaning blushes. I have been eying Chanel Reflects which is not available anymore but I have found a couple on secondary sites. It is definitely out of my comfort zone and on the couple of YT’ers that I watch, it pulls more neutral but on Christine it is much more vibrant and I trust her pictures and descriptions so likely will let it go. Once I got the Chanel Fantaisie and a couple of the Gucci blushes, I feel like I am set.
My big problem and one of the reason’s that I keep watching YT beauty influencer channels is that I have recently discovered that one of my main problems is that I don’t do well with color story. By that I mean I don’t know what blush/lipstick/eyeshadow to pair together. You would think that someone who has somewhat of an artistic bent and who loves makeup would not have this issue but I tend to pick a product that I want to use that day and then just add other favorites to it without really analyzing the best products to pair with it. I think that is why many of my makeup looks end up frustrating me in the end. I also realize that that is why I liked it when Christine did full face looks on the products and I could see what she paired with the product she was reviewing.
A couple of days ago, I was watching a YT video using the new Chanel Holiday collection and the influencer decided not to add any blush as she felt her natural cheek color was all that she needed. I didn’t love the look but when I watched another video that person paired the eyeshadow palette with a lipstick and blush and I loved it. I am likely rambling here but just wanted to mention my newly discovered deficiency. It really brought home to me that willy-nilly picking three products and throwing them on my face just isn’t going to give me the really pulled together look that I am hoping for and which would take my makeup to the next level. That is also why I like when brands release new collections, I like them to include other colored products. The Chanel holiday collection versus the Tom Ford collection is a perfect example. I like that Chanel released lipsticks along with the eye palette and Tom Ford only released glosses which are not pigmented enough to show me what direction to go in. Funny that I am just discovering this about myself at age 70.

It is interesting that we are noticing this now. I am like you, I finish the look and then look in the mirror and wonder why the dickens I picked that lipstick or that blush. Usually I end up leaving it just because I don’t have a life so no one is going to see me in my messed up look but it has resulted in my looking at YT beauty channels differently. I realized that some of the people I follow have the same issue and when they get done I don’t really love the look and then someone else using the same palette or lipstick or blush and it turns out gorgeous because they knew what to pair it with to have the whole look mesh. This sounds crazy but I have started a little cheat sheet of looks that I really love and I am putting the palette used, blush and lipstick used so that when I use that particular product, I have an idea of what to pair it with. Should probably have started it long ago and likely wouldn’t have needed to buy so much makeup trying to recreate a look. Christine has an innate gift at pairing things together and when she does a full face and then does the picture with her eyes nearly closed and the whole face showing, I always marvel. So pretty.

After searching for many years I had finally found my perfect cream blush and powder blush-Mac Brit Wit and Too Faced Mocha Mi Amore, respectively. At that time I had no idea they’d both be d/c’d so I sadly did not stock up. Now I am spending many more years trying to find dupes for both with no success. I’ve Googled ‘dirty pinks’, ‘pinky browns’ and haven’t found anything that comes close. Tarte Exposed is on the dupe list but it just doesn’t cut it. I am thinking of trying 3 Custom Color Specialists for both blushes. Anyone who has had any experience with this company, please let me know. Good luck to all on your searches!

I need a powder version of Phytosurgence’s Condensate. It’s my favorite cool nude mauve, the only reason I don’t use it every day is because sometimes I don’t want a cream blush and I want to give others in my collection some love. But honestly I could get rid of most of my blushes and so long as I kept Condensate I wouldn’t notice.
